Make a cute and cozy 3-D Punch Needle Christmas tree just in time for the holiday season! In this punch needle class, taught by Advanced Oxford Certified Instructor, Jean Drevdahl-Orchard, you will learn to create a 10” tall 3-D tree with the traditional punch needle stitch, add garland with Beading stitch, and how to make sculpted ornaments on your tree. It is a great time to venture into using multiple sizes of punch needles to make it more dimensional. Digital Pattern is included in course registration!

2 skeins green Rug Yarn or Fine Yarn
1 skein white Rug Yarn or Fine Yarn
Small amount of Rug Yarn or Fine Yarn for accent color for the garland
24” x 24" Monk’s cloth
Provided pattern, printed on paper

Other tools and supplies:

Light table or window, plus masking tape and permanent marker for tracing pattern
18” x 18" Gripper Frame Recommended
Oxford Punch Needle sizes: If using rug yarn, #10 Regular Point required with optional #8 Regular Point for sculpting if desired. If using fine yarn, #13 or #10 Fine Point required.
Small sharp scissors (Embroidery type work well)
Strong thread and large eye needle for assembly

Jean Drevdahl Orchard

Advanced Oxford Instructor Jean Drevdahl Orchard practices a “High Fiber Diet”, just not in the way doctors intended! Jean started sewing and embroidering at age seven and went on to master drawn thread, pulled thread, miniature punch needle embroidery, and Hardanger. Soon, she was teaching these techniques locally, nationally, and internationally. Jean’s fiber skills were recognized when she was one of 50 in the US to design and stitch an ornament for the White House Christmas tree.

When Jean discovered Punch Needle Rug Hooking it had a gripping effect. She became an Oxford Certified Instructor in 2022, has been teaching punch needle virtually and in person since 2020, and is building a supportive and encouraging community of punchers.

Having her Ph.D. in Public Health and a Master’s of Science in Teaching made it natural for Jean to teach the technical side of these arts in a simple, step-by-step, and easy to understand way. Nothing fulfills her more than encouraging her students; seeing their joy as they grasp the concepts and complete their projects.
