FAQ for Live Online Classes

Are live online classes an effective way to learn punch needle rug hooking?
Yes! In fact there are advantages to being online! Our online courses are kept small to ensure that every student receives plenty of individual attention, and to have the same comfortable feel and camaraderie often found in in-person classes. Students are encouraged to ask questions, and be active participants in class. The instructors can easily show details of the project, demonstrate each technique up close and in great detail through the use of multiple cameras. The ability to have the course content spread out over a number of weeks, means students have time to learn and practice between sessions and ask questions as they progress through the course.

How are the online classes delivered?

All of our online classes are taught over Zoom.
Many classes will also have a designated WhatsApp group so students can easily share photos of their work, and to allow teachers to see details in projects. Both apps are free for students to download and use; simply click on the links below to install. You can find a free, easy to follow guide on how to use them HERE.

What kind of equipment/services do I need to attend an online class?
All you need is a good internet connection that doesn’t lag, a quiet room and a device that allows you to watch and hear the class clearly. Desktop and laptop computers are ideal as they have a large screen for easier viewing, but tablets and smartphones also work.

Can I attend Oxford Rug Hooking School online courses from anywhere?
Yes! This is one of the advantages of live online learning! As long as you have good, fast internet, you can attend our classes from anywhere in the world. Be sure to check the time and time zone listed for each class, and convert to your time zone so you don’t miss out. The other consideration is ensuring that your kit can be shipped to your location so it arrives before class starts. If you are not located within the U.S.A. or Canada additional time for shipping may be required and additional shipping fees for kits will apply. If you are unsure about shipping times, please contact the school head, simone.orhschool@amyoxford.com

Can my friend watch from my computer with me?

Yes, as long as everyone present in the room has registered and paid for the course! Letting the instructor know that there will be two (or more) people sharing the same computer beforehand will help with attendance and avoid confusion when class starts. Please be respectful of our instructors, school, and privacy laws by ensuring that everyone present for the live class, or while watching the recordings, is a registered participant.
