This quick and satisfying project makes a charming addition to a wreath, a window display, or a table centerpiece guests will be sure to admire!

The digital pattern (based on a design by Susan Sutherland) is included in the course registration so you'll be able to make as many Fall corn projects as you'd like!

You will need the following materials for this class:

  • Monk's cloth (24 by 24 will create three ears of corn comfortably; minimum size piece of Monks cloth is 13 by 13 for one ear of corn)
  • Rug weight yarn- one 4 oz skein (Violet Jane has amazing colors and you will get one ear of corn from this amount with a little bit left over)
  • OR Fine Yarn- one 4 oz skein (Violet Jane has some amazing colors and you will get one ear of corn with enough to start a second)
  • Wine Cork for the 'cob'
  • Husk (Raffia Ribbon, dried corn husks, or tamale wrappers found on Amazon or in the grocery store work well!)
  • Stuffing material: This can be yarn scraps, wool stuffing, polyester stuffing (the ears of corn are stuffed firmly, so a couple of oz may be needed)
  • Glue (such as Aleene's Tacky Glue) for closing the end of the corn with the cork and attaching the husks.
You will also need the following tools:
  • #10 Regular Point Oxford Punch Needle if using Rug Yarn- gives a very realistic corn look
  • OR # 10 Fine Point Oxford Punch Needle if using fine yarn- gives a smoother corn effect
  • Optional #9 Fine or Regular Point Oxford Punch Needle (Optional but helpful to disguise the joining seam on the cob)
  • Gripper frame - 18 by 18 is ideal for a 24 by 24 monk’s cloth, minimum recommended size is 14” by 14” for one ear of corn
  • Bent Handle Scissors or sharp pointed scissors to clip yarn
  • A light source (light table or window), masking tape, and a sharpie or pencil for tracing your pattern onto monk's cloth
  • Needle and Thread (Tapestry Needle and upholstery, heavy-duty, or two strands of Monks cloth work well)
  • Stuffing tool: This can be a chop stick, pencil with eraser or a long blunt, ended item.
