A Good Yarn Punch Needle Book Club, led by Oxford Instructor Mandy Alsager, brings together the love of a good story and punch needle rug hooking!
“The Frozen River is a powerful story of an extraordinary woman whose voice still echoes through history.”
Join us for a four-week Zoom book club as we read and discuss The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon, a captivating historical novel inspired by the life of 18th-century midwife Martha Ballard.
Set in Maine during the winter of 1789, this richly researched novel blends history, mystery, and courtroom drama as Martha investigates a shocking death while navigating the challenges of her community and profession.
Each week we’ll gather online to discuss the assigned reading, explore the historical context, share insights about the characters, and enjoy lively conversation with fellow readers.
Participants are encouraged to bring a punch needle project and punch along during our discussions. Whether you’re working on a new project, finishing a work in progress, or simply listening and stitching, this is a relaxed and welcoming gathering for fiber art enthusiasts.
Unable to make the live session? We've got you covered! All ORHS sessions are recorded as a courtesy to students and the recording will be made available to course participants for 30 days after the course. This allows you to review the discussion, or to catch up should you miss a session.
By registering you agree to this recording, to follow privacy and confidentiality guidelines, and to be respectful of the ORHS, the Instructors and your fellow classmates by not sharing, distributing or making available for viewing the recording to others in any way.
