Dawna Matthew

Gore, Québec

Dawna, a retired elementary school teacher, has been an avid rug hooker since 2012. She was always intrigued by the many different styles and techniques. In 2018 she began following the steps required to become an Oxford Punch Needle Certified Teacher and hopes to attain her certificate this fall. Dawna has made many punched rug items since being introduced to this technique. She enjoys combining the punch needle method with traditional rug hooking to produce rugs with varying textures and heights. Dawna particularly enjoys working with beginners. Her patience and enthusiasm help create a relaxed and comfortable learning atmosphere. She is currently the president of the Beaconsfield Hooking Crafters Guild in Quebec and a member of the Ontario Hooking Craft Guild, the Green Mountain Guild in Vermont; TIGHR (The International Guild of Handhooking Rug Makers); and ATHA (Association of Traditional Hooking Artists). In addition to being a certified Oxford Punch Needle Instructor, Dawna will become a certified Ontario Hooking Craft Guild teacher in May and will soon hold a certificate in Traditional Fibre Arts from St. Lawrence College in Brockville, Ontario.
