Prerequisites: Prior fine Oxford Punch Needle experience, and have completed a couple of fine Oxford Punch Needle Projects.

Course Description:

This delightful project takes punch needle rug hooking into a place of magic, with an emphasis on color! Explore the bead stitch and two-stranded punching; this intermediate to advanced level piece is excellent for experienced students who want to continue practicing their skills plus learn something new.

The Unicorn design is approximately 17×17 inches when  completed and includes a fold-forward-finished edge.

ORHS classes are recorded as a courtesy to its students by the ORHS and its instructors, and the recording will be made available to course participants for 30 days after the course. This allows you to review the lesson, or to catch up should you miss a class.

For this course you will need:

The Unicorn kit, available directly from the instructor, Laura Berlage. (Kit includes: the monk’s cloth with a drawn pattern, and wool yarn from the instructors farm’s sheep, along with novelty fibers. A detailed PDF with photos and instructions are also included with the kit. The kit cost $190. Flat rate shipping to continental US, $12.)

Students should also have the following:

  • An 18×18 inch gripper strip frame. 
  • Oxford punch needles, size 14, 13, and 10, fines.
  • Bent handled scissors.
  • Needle and thread for finishing.
  • Fabric clips or clothespins.
  • Size D crochet hook or tapestry needle, for finishing.
