What could be better than combining a love of reading with the love punch needle rug hooking?
A Good Yarn Punch Needle Book Club, led by new Oxford Instructor Mandy Alsager, brings together reading, conversation, and creative making through gentle guided discussion of With Her Own Hands: Women Weaving Their Stories by Nicole Nehrig.
Centered on women’s voices, creativity, resilience, and the deep connection between storytelling and handwork, this relaxed and welcoming book club invites participants to reflect while working with their hands. Participants are encouraged to bring their own punch needle rug hooking project to work on during each session. The second half of every meeting includes time to ask brief questions about projects or punch needle techniques, making this a great opportunity to finish pieces, get quick help, or simply to carve out a little time to enjoy the craft with others.
Over the four weekly Zoom sessions, participants will discuss selected chapters and themes while working on their punch needle projects. Designed to be informal this virtual book club offers a meaningful way to slow down, connect, and create while exploring women’s stories. Mandy is excited to offer a space where participants can read, reflect, and punch together—bringing their own projects and experiences into the conversation.
