In this intermediate class create a 16” x 16” linen canvas wall hanging that is designed to teach you several interesting techniques! The Techniques include couching with a punch needle, proddy, reverse punching and punching with fabric. When finished, you'll have a pretty posy to adorn your wall!

Note: this project will not be completed in class but the instructor will cover all of the techniques so you can finish on your own.

For this course you will need:

Kit-(Optional) $50 plus shipping- not included in the course registration fee. The kit fee is payable directly to the instructor after course registration. The kit includes: All materials needed to complete project, pre-stretched linen with pattern drawn on, hand dyed wool fabric, wool yarns and cotton fabric

Additional tools and materials needed:

  • Oxford Punch Needles in #8 and #10 regular
  • Surplus yarn for the couching base. Other options are to use pipe cleaners or clothesline cording.
  • Something to use as a proddy tool. Instructor used a double pointed knitting needle a little thicker than a pencil. You could also sharpen and sand a small piece of dowel.  Of course, if you have an actual proddy tool, and are comfortable using it, please do! 

For those not purchasing the kit you will also require the following in addition to the above:

  • Pattern  
  • (4) 14” stretcher bars
  • 17 1/4” x 17 1/4” piece of primitive linen with finished edges
  • Staple gun
  • Optionally- stretch your linen onto a gripper frame instead of using a staple gun and stretcher bars. When finished mount and frame your project. You can also simply purchase a 14” x 14” frame with pre stretched linen.
  • 3-4 yards White Wooly Worsted Yarn
  • 9 yards Black Wooly Worsted Yarn
  • 12 yards Fern (green) Wooly Worsted Yarn
  • Green wool fabric to be used for the small leaves. Approximately 1” x 13”  
  • Wool fabric in the color of your choice for the flower petals. (3) 4” x 30” pieces. (I used three different shades)
  • Cotton fabric for the flower centers. Approximately 3” x 24”  
  • Cotton fabric for the leaves. Approximately 12” x 30”  
  • Surplus yarn for the couching base. Other options are to use pipe cleaners or clothesline cording.
