Micah Clasper-Torch

Los Angeles, CA

Micah Clasper-Torch is a Los Angeles based fiber artist, designer and educator who is among a new wave of artists specializing in punch needle rug hooking and hand tufting techniques. Micah's work blurs the line between fine art and design as she creates small collections and one of a kind pieces that range from softgoods such as clothing and rugs, to wall hangings and mixed media artwork. Her work and teaching embraces established punch needle traditions as a starting point to explore new techniques and applications, pushing their boundaries through contemporary design. With a BFA in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Politecnic Institute in Milan Italy, Micah brings 13 years of experience across the worlds of fashion, art and design to her craft. In 2019 she was formally certified as an Oxford Punch Needle Instructor by Amy Oxford, a renowned rug hooker and founder of The Oxford Rug Hooking School in Vermont. Micah's teaching style is rooted in traditional techniques, with an aim to instill confidence in the ability to take this craft and make it your own. She hosts regular classes in the Los Angeles area, one-on-one lessons from her home in Highland Park, and is flexible to travel and teach in cities domestic and abroad.
