International Punch Needle Rug Hooking Day

Shine Rug Pattern

On April 9th, punch needle rug hooking enthusiasts from around the world will pick up their punches on International Punch Needle Rug Hooking Day (IPNRHD). Our annual event was launched in 2010 by Oxford Certified Instructors and is a wonderful way to celebrate this much-loved craft and to participate in the rich world of the fiber arts.

We’ll also be celebrating by sharing photos and videos on social media. If you’d like to post pictures of yourself and your project please use the hashtag #IPNRHD. On your post, be sure to say where you’re from. It will be fun to see what countries are represented!

This year’s IPNRHD ambassador is Oxford Certified Instructor Rebecca Martin from StoryTeller Wool in Longmont, Colorado. Rebecca was given the challenge of creating a pattern inspired by our 2022 theme: SHINE! Complete directions, materials needed, and a free download of  the 8" x 8" Shine pattern are available on the StoryTeller Wool website. Rebecca also offers the pattern drawn on monk's cloth and a kit to make the project on her StoryTeller Wool Etsy Shop. Thanks Rebecca for creating this free pattern and all the “How to” info for everyone!

Shine mats in rug yarn and worsted

Rebecca designed Shine to highlight the Oxford #13 or #14 fine Oxford Punch Needles. These punches can be used with worsted weight or Aran weight knitting yarn (above left). The pattern also works beautifully with a #10 regular Oxford Punch Needle and rug weight or bulky yarn (above right). The pattern is 8" x 8".
